Salvatore Minardi Fundraiser

March 18th, 2014

The Salvatore Minardi smsalonSalon in Madison hosted a fundraiser for the Red Lily Foundation on Wednesday, November 14th. Proceeds from the sold out event were donated to Red Lily Foundation to help fund research into the causes and treatment of Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS).

The daughter of one of Salvatore Minardi’s clients was unable to attend her junior and senior years of high school due to symptoms related to the disorder; on hearing her story Salvatore offered his salon and staff for an event to raise funds and awareness.

The event on November 14th, was a smashing success! Following hair cuts, color, and treatments by Minardi stylists, clients were treated to a complimentary makeover by a Bobbi Brown make-up artist and enjoyed delicious cupcakes provided by Cupcake Wars Winner, the Sweet Spot Bake Shoppe of Chester, NJ! Accessorize with Style of Randolph provided a beautiful display of jewelry, scarves, and other fashion accessories and donated proceeds from sales to the Foundation. Madison businesses Sages Pages, Avenue Travel Group, Madison Eyes, and Long Valley’s Home: European Fine Furniture added to the festivities by sponsoring and decorating stylists’ mirrors or donating baskets.

Red Lily Foundation is overwhelmingly grateful to all the wonderful people who worked to make this day such a great success! We give a very special Thank You to Salvatore Minardi for his continued encouragement and enthusiasm in making this event a reality and for his continued personal support! Thank You!

Some Pretty Special People

Some Pretty Special People

Sometimes we are astounded by the kindness and generosity of the people in our lives. Carly and Kelly are two young girls we know whose thoughtfulness and actions are go far beyond their years. These girls embody a special kindness that seems to live in the souls of children.

When they heard their parents talking about Red Lily Foundation and how POTS has impacted Meghan’s life, the girls immediately felt a need to make a difference. They wanted to help make things better. And so Carly and Kelly went to school that week and took up a collection from their classmates. They talked to their friends about how POTS can change someone’s life and how important it is to support research so that answers can be found, so that people who suffer with this syndrome can get their lives back.

As it happened Carly’s science class was learning about the nervous system at that time and so Carly brought her teacher some information about POTS. Her teacher incorporated the information into her lesson plan and without even realizing it Carly was the very first to implement Red Lily’s Mission of increasing education and awareness about POTS!

This October they have again rallied their classmates to do a benefit walk to support Red Lily Foundation! Thank you Carly and Kelly, and all our friends in Verona! Your kindness and support means more to all of us than you can imagine. One day soon we will have a cure and it will be because of people like you!!

Run to Stand 5K

October 3rd, 2012

Red Lily Foundation is off and running with its first successful fundraising event with over $16,000 raised!!

Thanks to the generous donations of corporate sponsors, individual sponsors and over 200 enthusiastic participants, Red Lily Foundation kicked off its first annual Run to Stand 5K, a run/walk event, on May 11, 2012 at scenic Central Park in Morris Plains, New Jersey… and a great time was had by all.

Red Lily Foundation was thrilled that their first fundraising and awareness event raised over $16,000. All donations raised will go to finding the cause and treatment of POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome) and related disorders.

There was a team of energetic volunteers on hand to welcome the runners and walkers to the event. Mother Nature cooperated with gorgeous, fair skies and the temperature was perfect for the runners and walkers.

Runners and walkers ranged in age from babies in strollers to the young-at-heart. Four-legged, furry dog friends also walked the one-mile course at Central Park.

After the last runners and walkers finished up the course, awards were handed out to runners in 4 age divisions and a well-earned treat of sub sandwiches and cupcakes were shared by all after an amazing evening at Red Lily Foundation Run to Stand 5K.

The Run to Stand 5K could not have happened without 18 year-old Meghan Miller, of Chester, New Jersey. Meghan has suffered with POTS for over two years and knows first-hand the demanding physical and emotional challenges and difficulties of POTS. Meghan was frustrated with the limited knowledge and research in the medical community of POTS. So she decided to be pro-active in starting a foundation dedicated to education, awareness and fundraising in the fight against POTS. POTS affects between 500,000 and 1,000,000 Americans.

Meghan and the Miller family were so grateful and appreciative with the huge success of Red Lily Foundation’s first fundraising event. Huge thanks to the corporate and individual sponsors, runners, walkers and volunteers for their generous donations, time and energy… what an amazing gift you gave to Red Lily Foundation!

So Red Lily Foundation is off and running, and we would greatly welcome and appreciate any future donations to our foundation! Please check to see if your corporation can match your donation. Donations can be made here.

Thanks to everyone on a job well done!!
